Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because I felt welcomed here from my first interaction on campus with the admissions staff. I also love how beautiful the campus is year-round. The students here are all very welcoming to everybody. I also love the sense of community that exists on campus.”

Faculty mentors

“Carthage faculty have had an impact on me in many ways. A lot of schools have faculty that say they will support you, but the faculty at Carthage truly do support you in any way you need. If the faculty member you reach out to cannot help you with something, they know someone who can. The faculty here also have a wealth of knowledge in the classroom, professionally, and of life in general.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage so far has been Intro to Health Care Professions. This class helped prepare me for everything in healthcare and was always interesting, fun, and entertaining — from communication skills to conflict resolution to addressing workplace bias.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class at Carthage so far has been General Chemistry. Some chemistry courses here are taught in flipped lectures. Personally, it took me a while to get used to this change.”

Campus involvement

“I am on the men’s swim team here at Carthage. I am also involved in the Pre-Health Club and the Jewish Student Union.”

Career goal

“After Carthage, I want to pursue my career as an athletic trainer. My long-term goal is to work as a provider in a clinical setting.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite place on campus is by the rocks on the beach behind The Tower. The view is amazing, and it’s very peaceful.”

Favorite memory

“My favorite moments at Carthage are just spending quality time bonding with friends.”

Biggest surprise

“My biggest surprise so far is how big Carthage feels. It’s definitely nice to have a big school feel when at a small school. Another big surprise is how easy it has been to make friends here. Everyone is super nice and eager to meet new people!”

Advice for other students in your major?

“Other students should choose allied health science as a major because you can do so much with the degree. If you are interested in pre-health but do not know what track you want to take, this is the perfect opportunity to explore that. Allied health science is a very diverse program and ultimately prepares you to be the best provider you can be in the field. My advice would be to take it one step at a time and to be patient. The classes will be difficult, but you can do it!”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“8-year-old me would think that my current studies are very cool. I’ve been passionate about athletic training for a long time, so 8-year-old me would think it’s crazy that I’m here pursuing it. I would also be very jealous that I now live by the lake.”
